Not to mention feeling grounded, re-energized, and creative (see the testimonials on my website).\n\nWhile we know spending time in nature is good for us, scientific studies are proving time and again what an incredible form of preventive medicine it is for our nervous systems, minds, and bodies to spend intentional time in nature. It is in these environments that we can truly rest, heal, and ground ourselves, both in our busy lives, and in these tumultuous times.\n\nAnd so, I invite you to experience these benefits, and the natural world, in perhaps a different way. No prior experience or knowledge is required, simply an open mind and good footwear!\n\nWHAT TO EXPECT ON A FOREST BATHING WALK\nA forest bathing walk is a guided experience that is typically 1.5-3 hours long, depending on the group, the season, etc.\n\nThe distance covered is minimal, as the focus is on fully being and experiencing “here” versus arriving “somewhere else”\n\nParticipants are guided through a series of sensory-based activities called invitations. These are intended to help individuals slow down, drop into their senses, explore, connect with their surroundings, and follow their curiosities.\n\nThe walk pulses between individual time exploring, and reconvening with the group in a sharing circle to share what they are noticing. Listening and being heard in this way helps to deepen and integrate participants’ experiences. \n\nThe walk ends with the sharing of tea — an infusion of a local native edible plant — and the sharing of experiences. \n\nParticipants will often feel very relaxed after a forest therapy walk, and many may have a profound experience, realization, or gain meaningful insight about their lives. \n\nA core intention of this practice is for its foundations, and quality of engagement with the more-than-human world to be readily incorporated into one’s daily life. That is, remembering to slow down, pay attention, and engage with the life that surrounds you, as well as continue your own journey of deepening your relationship with our earth and its inhabitants. Walking down a city street may never be the same again. \n\nForest bathing is for everyone. You do not need to have a profound relationship to the natural world, meditate, or have specific scientific or naturalist knowledge to benefit from this practice. Further, nature enthusiasts will benefit deeply from this practice, as it presents a different way to observe and be in relationship with the natural world. \n\nThe desire and inclination to be in nature is in the DNA of all humans — we are literally wired for this deep connection. We are part of the natural world in which we evolved, and we long for this return and reconnection, whether we consciously realize it or not.","included":"","notIncluded":"","guestRequirements":"","additionalNotes":"I will send further details via email upon payment and registration.\n\nI require a minimum of 3 registered participants to go ahead with my walks. In the event that there are less than 3 participants, your ticket can be used towards my next scheduled walk, or refunded.","latitude":45.501568,"longitude":-73.593216,"timezone":"America/Toronto","address":"Mount Royal Park, Remembrance Road, Montreal, QC, Canada","city":"Montreal, QC, Canada","images":[{"id":19912,"imageUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469545/yervana/prd/14c32962-41cf-41cd-9d99-cbc1f47cb3dd-sophie-monkman.jpg","thumbnailUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469545/yervana/prd/14c32962-41cf-41cd-9d99-cbc1f47cb3dd-sophie-monkman.jpg","priority":0},{"id":19910,"imageUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469505/yervana/prd/5666ce99-c786-48e0-aa25-89d2c39c524f-sophie-monkman.jpg","thumbnailUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469505/yervana/prd/5666ce99-c786-48e0-aa25-89d2c39c524f-sophie-monkman.jpg","priority":3},{"id":19911,"imageUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469512/yervana/prd/98d0f4ea-71a5-45fd-97ee-9d83022d1c37-sophie-monkman.jpg","thumbnailUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469512/yervana/prd/98d0f4ea-71a5-45fd-97ee-9d83022d1c37-sophie-monkman.jpg","priority":1},{"id":19909,"imageUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469498/yervana/prd/6b40db1e-6804-4e82-b2d9-72eb8b52397c-sophie-monkman.jpg","thumbnailUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664469498/yervana/prd/6b40db1e-6804-4e82-b2d9-72eb8b52397c-sophie-monkman.jpg","priority":2}],"archived":false,"code":"La-dKnpOd","slots":[{"id":53774,"startDate":1665237600000,"recurrenceEndDate":null,"recurringType":"NONE","recurrentRate":0,"unavailableDates":[],"exceptionDates":[],"requestToBook":true}],"category":{"id":13,"name":"Health & Wellness"},"bookingCount":0,"tags":["summer","fall","forest","city","adults","couples","individuals","QC"],"experienceTags":{"seasons":["summer","fall"],"accessibility":[],"details":[],"attractions":["forest","city"],"demographic":["adults","couples","individuals"]},"host":{"id":11084,"login":"","firstName":"Sophie","lastName":"Monkman","email":"softearth@zuneek.com","imageUrl":"https://res.cloudinary.com/yervana/image/upload/v1664468926/yervana/prd/e8b5237c-051c-43f2-9a2e-596837223215-sophie-monkman.jpg","activated":true,"langKey":null,"createdBy":null,"createdDate":null,"lastModifiedBy":null,"lastModifiedDate":null,"authorities":null,"commonProfile":{"id":11084,"about":"Hi, my name is Sophie Monkman, and I have been in deep awe of the more-than-human world for my entire life.\n\nI grew up in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario — the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg — with a naturalist as a father, and a childhood rich with time in nature. It was there, amidst the sugar maples, white pines and freshwater lakes, that the seeds of my connection to the natural world were planted and tended. Connecting to nature has been an integral and inextricable part of who I am, and it is this most profound — and primary — relationship that led me to this practice.\n\nMy home for the last decade has been Tiotia:ke/Montreal, Quebec, which lies on unceded Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) territory. It is here that I have been leading forest therapy experiences for the last three years — mainly on Mount Royal.\n\nFollowing and trusting what brings me most alive has guided me along my meandering path; I completed a Bachelor’s of Arts in Cultural Anthropology at Concordia University in 2014 as well as two forest therapy guide certifications; the first with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT) in 2018, and the second with the Global Institute of Forest Therapy (GIFT) in 2020. I am a member of the Association for Shinrin-Yoku Guides (AGSY), and I am certified with the Red Cross in wilderness first aid CPR/AED. I continue to deepen in the field of nature connection and activism by regularly attending related workshops and conferences — such as the Work That Reconnects workshop with Joanna Macy in San Francisco, and the Reciprocal Healing confluence in Arizona.\n\nIn addition to building my forest therapy practice, I work for the Global Institute of Forest Therapy, do translation work from French to English, and offer eco cleaning services with homemade non-toxic products. I read widely, write poetry and essays related to and inspired by the human connection to nature, garden, cook, and can reliably be found exploring the beautiful and often overlooked natural pockets in my city with my dog, Sully.
